Does Rachel Ray Scare You?

Bowing to the pressure of at least one paranoid blogger, Dunkin Donuts has pulled an ad featuring Rachel Ray wearing what crazies everywhere claim looks like a keffiyeh, a traditional Arab headdress.

Dude, she’s wearing a scarf. Yes, it’s black and white, and, yes, it’s fringed. But really, it’s still nothing more than a scarf.

Rachel Ray more than scares me. I did buy one of her cookbooks once to see if I could make the meals in under 30 minutes -- of course I couldn't. Not only that, but I had to make special shopping trips any time I wanted to make recipes from that book. When I have caught a snippet here or there of her show, I'm always amazed by her bubbliness. Ick.

A P.S. on topic: The fact that her commercial was pulled is naturally completely wacked. :)

I heard this story yesterday and couldn't believe it.

I heard this story on NPR. Where are people's heads? And while I agree that Rachel is irritatingly perky, I watched a biography about her that made me respect her more - she seems to have come back pretty well after a nasty incident with a mugger. Now I want an iced coffee...

Even if that thing started off as a true keffiyeh, the moment RR put one on negated any cultural significance it might have.

About two weeks ago a friend mentioned--seeing some fashionista type festoooned in a similar scarf walk past us in midtown--that she sometime when she was paying attention the keffiyeh made the transition from political statement to fashion statement.

Err, make that sometime when she WASN'T paying attention...

I'm seriously confused. Every tragically hip fashionista over here (under the age of 23, admittedly) wears them. They're all the rage and have been for a while now. How is this a political statement? Ergh.

And, I have no clue who she is or how perky, I'm just shaking my head at the level of paranoia around a freakin iced coffee ad!
