Oh, no!

Today I mailed my passport renewal application. I already felt somewhat squeamish about the process, because the government requires you to mail your current passport in with the application, which means that I can't go anywhere now even if I want to. Then, I looked at NYT.com and the very first article on the front page is all about how it's practically impossible to get a passport these days. I'm not feeling very good about this.

It took much longer then anticipated to get our passports at the beginning of the year. I had to send in Gavin's birth certificate and then needed it to sign him up for school, so I had to buy another copy of his birth certificate. The annoying thing is people barely looked at the passports at all the check points.

Do you remember how long it actually took? I was hoping to do something this fall, but this article has made me really nervous about planning anything now.

We did it in January and it took about 7 or 8 weeks. They said the express service was taking 6+ weeks then. It was right when the new rules went into effect. We did Bobby and Gavin's, but their was an issue with my birth certificate so I had to go back about week later and the line was three times as long and took forever.

I have to renew my passport, too! I haven't done it yet because I didn't want to mail in the old one but now that you've done it, I'll be brave and mail mine in.

Good luck! I have no idea if I did the right thing mailing it in or not. My fingers are crossed for both of us.
