You Choose: What Should I Be Reading?

Ok, everyone, here's your chance to direct my summer reading. My lame-ass (but free) poll service won't let me do more than ten options per poll, so I've done two lists here. You can pick up to five from each. I'll read the top six vote-getters before Labor Day. Happy voting!

I voted, but I have to tell you the only reasons I voted for the 2 books I did was because there was only 1 on each list that I had read. I need to add these to my summer reading list too! :)

Turns out, I'm only personally familiar with one of your 20 books...so that's the one I voted for.

Fun! How did you come up with these lists?

These are about half the books on my to-be-read shelf. It's crazy that I've accumulated so many!

okay, I went ahead and voted here, too.

Off topic into nonfiction, I finished that Kapucinski this morning and feel so accomplished, slim volume that it was. And I take back what I said about his providing no context. In this book, it comes later, with a timeline and an aftermath.

And, I'm just too intimidated by my to-read pile. Maybe I'll compile and unfinished books list and finish those this summer.

Also, in most cases I voted for stuff I haven't read, selfishly, so you can tell me about 'em.

I'm so glad that someone else has a "to-be-read" shelf. I always feel like such a slacker that I have an entire shelf of books to be read. I loved "Devil in the White City", so that gets my top vote.

I quite liked a lot of the books on this list, and the beauty is that some of them are super-fast reads: The Object of My Affection (I read it about 10 years ago) flies by, and Year of Magical Thinking is surprisingly succinct, though there's a lot to chew on. I can't recommend Blindness highly enough - maybe it was just the time/place in my life when I read it, but I loved that book so much.
